2. What type of guys go to the bar?

We have a huge mix of guys who come to the bar but we attract a more masculine, older crowd than other gay venues in town. Our reputation in the past used to be that of a leather bar. That has been more relaxed since we took over the bar. We welcome all guys who want to have fun in a no-attitude, fun crowd.

3. Are women allowed in?

Urge has been, and always will be, aimed towards gay men. As a result we are very conscious about letting women into the bar. We do not welcome large groups of women into the bar as we are only a small venue and we do not want our regular customers to feel uncomfortable or to suddenly feel they are in the minority. Women who come in with groups of gay guys are welcome but they should be aware that the space is a masculine bar.

5. Why did you introduce tickets for Underware Parties?

Our Underware Parties are some of the best and most popular nights at the bar. We decided that on health and safety grounds and to control the crowd that we should introduce a ticketing system. Most of the nominal $10 fee goes to charity. Anyone wanting tickets should email the bar at urgebar@ihug.co.nz
